Creating Slack Channel
- First of all, you have to navigate to the upper portion of the left-hand side panel; there, you will view the symbol “+” just after the option “Channels.” It will be based on your Slack edition. Sometimes, a circle having the + sign also appears at the same place. Hit the tab there.
- In case you are viewing the sign “+,” then hit the option “Create Channel” by navigating the Pull drop option there. Otherwise, you will view the prompt box having the option “Create a Channel.”
- Next, you have to provide a particular name for your channel, and you may also add your wished description. Users are also allowed to create a private channel as it will only be visible to others when you invite them. Users having admin privileges can create and modify any channel as they wish except the general one. You are not allowed to make the private channel to the public if it is created as private.
- Then, hit the Create option.
- A prompt window will appear and permit you to add other persons as your channel members. You may join any person on your channel or can skip it also.
- Users may also set up a blank channel as anyone can join it automatically if they add to your workspace.
- Make all the changes that you wish and then hit the Done tab. This option will be available at the lowermost right edge of the window.
- To skip any of the steps, hit the crossed signed tab located at the uppermost right side edge of the screen.
Follow these guidelines to join the channel in various methods:
- First of all, you have to open the complete listing of public channels available on the workspace to search your desired one to join.
- For moving directly to the channels browser, hit the option “Channels” located just prior to the “+” signed tab there. For step by step procedure, hit the “+” logo there and then tap on “Browse Channels.” It will be expanded via the pull drop button of the menu bar. Alternatively, hit the Ctrl, Shift, and L tab simultaneously to launch the channel browser on your Windows system. One can also apply the Command, Shift, and L tab for Mac devices.
- Then, you will be able to view all the public channels through the browser located at the workspace.
- Go to the upper section and then enter your desired search entry for which you are wandering around. After filtering your desired channel, press the option designed to the channel name to launch the channel. Alternatively, hit the Preview tab located at the sidebar at the right side portion.
- After that, press the Join Channel tab situated at the lowermost portion of the page to add it.
- In case you know the channel name that you wish to add, enter the name of the particular channel into the search section that is situated either at the uppermost section of the screen or at the upper left-hand side edge just beneath your name. Once you have entered a valid entry, a list of channels will expand on your device and hit the channel that you wish to join.
- Then, press the Join Channel button there situated in the middle of the expanded page to add it.
Adding People to Existing Channel
- First of all, launch the channel and hit the settings icon there. Alternatively, one can press the “Details” tab situated at the upper-most right-hand side section.
- Hit the option related to adding persons to the existing channel or hit the Add tab. It depends on the edition of the Slack edition.
- Hit the “Add to (channel name),” or “Create a New Channel” for making a fresh private channel there.
- Now, modify that your wish and then tap the Continue button there.
- Next, you will automatically bring to the Add People prompt window where you have to add people of your choice. Add the person that you want and finally hit the Done button there.
