WandaVision Gets a 2020 Premiere Date (Why and When)
Disney+ recently released a promo announcing that the much-awaited Marvel series WandaVision will be getting an early release in 2020. The story is said to tie up with Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, making it a must-watch for every Marvel fan.
The announcement will let Disney+ retain its momentum as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is set to release this year as well. What is not clear is that if WandaVision will release ahead of the latter or not. Nonetheless, the announcement is sure to give Disney+ an edge over the competition.
Disney+ has been on a roll with stuff like The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda, but the news has hyped the streaming service even more. The November released streaming platform surpassed every expectation as it racked up 10 million subscribers on its premiere.
The recently released promo contained more exciting stuff including photos of Bucky and Sam. It also had glimpses of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier starring Bucky and our all-new Captain America (Sam Wilson.) The show has a 2020 fall release date, but with WandaVision releasing early, nothing is guaranteed.
A brief look of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Lizzie McGuire, and The Mandalorian season 2 can also be seen in the promo. If the rumours are correct, then Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (7 May 2021) will be tied up with WandaVision.
Giving WandaVision an early release can be considered a smart decision as Disney+ is set to release several blockbusters this year, thus maintaining the hype. Even with big guns like Monsters at Work and Lizzie McGuire, Disney would not have been able to keep their vast subscribers. Something similar happened to HBO after the global phenomenon Game of Thrones ended.
WandaVision is already in production, and we even got several leaked photos showcasing Elizabeth Olsen ( Wanda Maximoff) and Teyonah Parris as an adult Monica Rambeau (appeared in Captain Marvel.) Disney will not stop here as 2021 is even more packed than 2020 with 4 MCU flicks set to release next year.
WandaVision has a promising cast with names such as:
- Paul Bettany (Vision)
- Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch)
- Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis)
- Randall Park (Agent Jimmy Woo)
Loki TV show alongside WandaVision was set to release at the same time, but 2020 has a large gap where no Marvel content is releasing. Most likely, Disney intends to fill the gap between Black Widow (May) and Eternals (November.) Although The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will also release in the meantime, it will only be available in the fall. Considering this, moving WandaVision’s release date is a smart move by Disney.
The Mandalorian stood on everybody’s expectations and provided worthy support to the streaming service, but it was quickly overtaken by Netflix’s The Witcher for the most-demanded show. It makes all the more sense for Disney to release a sure-hit show to keep the momentum. There is nothing known about the show, where the storyline will pick or what to expect, but more information can be expected to arrive in the next few months.
With Jac Schaeffer, the writer of Captain Marvel acting as the showrunner, it is sure to be a hit among the fans. The hype surrounding the show is evident as all the fans around the globe eagerly wait for its release.
